Puffy Mattress Review- Is It a Good Choice for You?

Wade E. Baker
The Puffy mattress is a choice known for the simplicity of its design. It has three supportive layers to allow the sleeper to be comfortable and to enjoy their time of rest while it targets their various pressure points to keep the body posture natural. The bed is a cool choice that does not allow the weather or your body heat to make it difficult for you to sleep.

Let’s find out what features it has to offer.

Who is suitable for the Puffy Mattress?

The Puffy is designed to satisfy a wide variety of people since the features are pretty standard. However, keeping in mind a few targeted features, we can see that this mattress makes it a nice choice for side sleepers (But not the best one I believe, even at the same price level).

The reason behind this is the firmness. Usually, mattresses that sink are not great for people that sleep on their back or people that sleep on their stomach. Side sleepers generally feel pressure on their shoulders and arms which is why they require their mattress to sink in a little so that their side body can have the required support. Because the Puffy contours to the body’s curves, back sleepers will have enough support.

Puffy is good for people that like their mattress to be a little plushy so that they can feel cozy under the covers and relax. Although mattresses like these are usually very warm, the Puffy is not.

For people that find themselves very hot at night because of their own body heat or the temperature in their bedroom, this mattress provides the perfect solution. The two-inch thick Cooling Cloud™ memory foam uses both convection and conduction to disperse heat away from your body.

Who is not suitable for the Puffy mattress?

Even though Puffy wants to reach out to as many people as they can, no mattress is suitable for everybody. A few features of Puffy make it less suitable for a certain type of people.

Heavy people may not find the support their body needs with this mattress which is why they should avoid the mattress as their first choice. People with heavier bodies (whether tall or overweight) will save time by reading Best Mattresses for Heavier Bodies.

Construction and materials of the Puffy mattress

The construction of the Puffy consists of three layers that were developed over four years of research. They wanted a mattress that was consistently comfortable and supportive without sleeping hot. The following are the details of the mattress’s construction.

The Puffy is made of three layers designed to ensure that the mattress can provide everything you expect from your mattress. The top layer is two inches and made with Cooling Cloud™ memory foam to help keep the mattress cool regardless of the weather and the amount of body heat. This layer helps in reducing the warmth by adding a layer of gel which helps regulate the temperature of your body and the temperature of the mattress as well. This layer of gel is perfectly blended when it is infused in the memory foam so that the basic properties of the foam are not affected.

The second layer of the Puffy mattress is a new mattress innovation. Memory foams have a tendency to change their feel when the temperature changes. The second layer is two inches of Climate Adaptive Regulation foam which ensures a consistent feel throughout the year.

The support layer is six inches of Insta-Firm Technology that quadruples the support you’ll experience on Puffy compared to standard mattresses. This layer is also much more responsive than standard mattresses.

The bottom layer is a great foundation for all kinds of sleepers; however, the dense foam does not have the potential to bounce back as soon as the exerted weight and pressure is lifted off the mattress. This flaw means that the foam needs to be flipped every few weeks and it will get saggy earlier than many other foams.

This is a 3-layer mattress that provides a comfortable supportive bed for most of their customers. Three and four layer mattresses are common, and some luxury models have five or even 7 layers.

Firmness

The Puffy is designed with universal features to make it simple and allow all kinds of sleepers to benefit from it. It is not a very firm mattress that would cause the wrong kind of support for most people. The mattress is known for its medium firmness. The Puffy only comes in one firmness option so if you want or need a firmer or softer mattress, Puffy isn’t the best choice.

Motion transfer

One of the most important features that couples look for when buying a mattress is control of motion transfer. Good motion transfer control means you won’t feel the mattress move when your partner rolls over or gets out of bed. Motion transfer can also occur when the mattress sinks under one person causing the other person to feel as though they are falling into a hole created by their partner’s weight on the mattress.

Puffy tends to sink. If your partner weighs significantly more or less than you do, this can cause one of you to feel you’re falling toward the other person

Edge support

There is no physical edge support other than the same foams used on the inner parts of the mattress. Hence, you will not find much edge support in the Puffy. If you are lighter in weight, this shouldn’t be a problem. However, heavy sleepers may easily feel as if they are going to roll off because the mattress will sink under them if they are near the edges. This makes the available sleeping area smaller than you’d find in a mattress with the same dimensions with good edge support.

Off-gassing

One of the most common problems that users tend to find with memory foam mattresses is off-gassing because of the materials used in making the foam. Puffy is not one of the foams that release a lot of gas, especially in the early nights. In fact, the gassing is a lot less than one would expect.  The smell was not overpowering even though a little amount was there. A well-ventilated room is enough for it to dissipate quickly.

Performance

The Puffy is a simple design that provides great performance but only for certain people. It has medium firmness, but it tends to sink in a lot. This feature may not be suited to those who do not like to sink into their mattress. People who are on the heavy side and those with mobility issues can experience problems rolling over or getting up when they sink in too much. On the positive side, Puffy is cool and supports side sleepers to ease pressure points which ensures a comfortable sleep. Even though there is no edge support for heavy people, this foam is a good choice for many people.

The trial period, warranty, shipping

The Puffy is known to have simplicity in its design and that is carried forward to its customer services as well. The company offers a trial period of 101 nights. During this period, the user can determine the features and ensure that any claims made by the company are not false and the mattress performs well for them.

This USA made foam will be delivered to your home in about 2 to 7 working days after you place your order. You do not have to miss work to accept delivery and it is light enough that you could have it delivered to a neighbor or your office and easily transport it home unless you drive a tiny vehicle. Unlike many other companies that need at least two weeks, you will easily get this mattress in about one week and you can enjoy the trial period for over three months. There are no shipping charges for buyers located in the continental United States.

One of the best features that you will find in this product is the lifetime warranty. Manufacturers’ trust in the quality of their product is often reflected in the duration and terms of their warranty. Puffy provides a lifetime warranty that will replace your mattress if you experience visible indentations or sagging of the foam mattress greater than one and a half (1.5) inches that is not a result of improper use, an improper bed, bed base or foundation, or if there is a manufacturing flaw in the cover zipper, or a physical flaw in the construction of the cover, such as fabric tearing or stitches unraveling, that does not result from improper use. Additional details about the warranty are available on Puffy’s website. A lifetime warranty means you no longer have to see the card and remember the date and time of the purchase or keep track of when the warranty expires. Anytime you feel that the mattress has a problem covered by the warranty, you can file a claim under the warranty.

Price

Of course, the price of the product is a huge factor in determining the quality and making sure that the company is worth the trust that the buyer puts in them. The price of the Puffy is a little high so they might be over budget for people with budget constraints.

Based on the features and sleeping experience, we don’t think it is the best choice for the money. You can compare Puffy with other mattresses in Best Memory Foam Mattress List.

Foundation

The type of foundation for the Puffy is entirely up to you. However, experts recommend using a platform bed as it will keep the foam well ventilated. Good support is important because not providing it can void your lifetime warranty. A slatted frame will allow the mattress to be cooler and more supportive regardless of the weight of the person sleeping in the bed.

Puffy is a popular choice for those seeking a memory foam mattress and it can be an excellent choice if sleeping cool is a primary consideration
